Opened in 1898 by César Ritz, this hotel on Place Vendôme helped define the very idea of luxury hospitality. Gilded salons, chandeliers and Louis XV-style furniture fill the rooms, while a lengthy renovation completed in 2016 added modern comforts without losing its character.
The Tuileries Garden, the Louvre and the shopping streets of rue Saint-Honoré are all close by.
Rooms and suites are dressed in silks, antiques and warm colours, and several suites are named after famous past guests. Bathrooms are generous, often in marble with deep tubs.
Bar Hemingway is a small, storied cocktail bar, the Ritz Bar opens onto a garden, and the Salon Proust serves an indulgent afternoon tea. There is also a cooking school on site.
The bars are generally open to visitors, though a smart dress code applies and seating can be limited.
